Harissa
Harissa can be reached from Jounieh by cable car, a nine-minute ride that takes you up 600 meters from the coast to the precipitous mountaintop. A less breathtaking approach is by road from Jounieh. Near the cable car terminus is a church and a spectacular cathedral begun in 1970, as well as
the famous landmark Statue of the Virgin Mary erected in 1908. Inside the base of the statue is a chapel while outside a spiral staircase leads to the top. Within walking distance is the Greek Catholic Monastery of St. Paul and the many-domed church of St. Paul begun in 1947. The golden walls inside the church are covered with beautiful Byzantine-style wall mosaics that represent Christ Pantocrater, the Virgin wearing a medallion, the Communion of the Apostles, the church fathers and scenes from the Bible.

Beirut
Beirut's archeology has revealed a history which dates back at least 5,000 years. In the first century B.C., the Romans colonized it and built a Law School which remained into the Byzantine era. The city was completely destroyed in 551 due to an earthquake, tidal wave and fire striking it all at once. It was later invaded successively by the Arab Muslim forces, the Crusaders, the Mamlukes
and the Ottomans. The latter controlled Beirut for 400 years until they were defeated by the Allies in 1918. After that, the city witnessed progressive development until 1975 when it was destroyed by war. In 1992, a massive construction project to rebuild the city center was started. Today one can enjoy the architectural beauty of the renovated structures within the Beirut Central District. To further discover Beirut, check out its touristic sites.

Sidon, Saida in Arabic
Saida is one of the Famous names in ancient history. But of all of Lebanon's cities this is the most mysterious, for its past has been tragically scattered and plundered. In the 19th century, treasure hunters and amateurarchaeologists made off with many of its most beautiful

and important objects, some of which can now be seen in foreign museums.

Cedars, Arz Ar-rab
The trip to the Cedars, about 30km (19mi) inland from Tripoli, passes through some of the most beautiful scenery in Lebanon. The road winds along mountainous slopes, gaining altitude and winding precipitously above spectacular gorges. Villages of red-tile roofed houses perch atop hills or cling precariously to the mountainsides and there are vistas of olive groves, vineyards, lush valleys and mountain peaks at every turn.Above Bcharré the road climbs to Lebanon's last remaining forest of Biblical cedars, known locally as Arz Ar-rab (God's cedars).
This is only a small forest, although the tree once grew throughout the country, it has been heavily exploited. Some of the trees here are 1500 years old, and the site is classified as a national monument. Below Bcharré, the spectacular Qadisha Gorge holds the tombs of the early Maronite patriarchs, as well as rock-cut monasteries. The gorge is a hiker's paradise, with paths along the top and bottom.
